Bernina was founded in 1893, initially producing industrial sewing machines. In the 1930s, Hanspeter's great-grandfather created the hemstitch machine for household use. While skiing in Switzerland, he spotted the Bernina mountain and decided it would be the perfect name for his company. Known for their precision and craftsmanship, Bernina has been going strong for over 130 years. As the fourth-generation owner, Hanspeter Ueltschi continues to guide the company in new directions while pushing the limits of what a sewing machine can do.
