Patriotic Pinwheel Quilt Block Instructions
Follow along with Mary using the steps below to create your own Patriotic Pinwheel block!

Materials
- Four 5” x 5” background squares (assorted fabrics)
- Four 5” x 5” pinwheel squares (assorted fabrics)

Instructions
1. Fold each pinwheel square in half diagonally with the right side facing out. Press or finger press the fold.
2. Serge along the folded edge using a 3- or 4-thread overlock stitch with variegated thread in both the upper and lower loopers (50 wt. cotton thread works well).
3. Place the background squares right side up.
4. Position each folded triangle on a background square with the folded edge running from the top right corner to the bottom left corner. Secure with Wonder Clips.
5. Bring the left corner of the triangle over to meet the bottom right corner of the square, then re-clip into place.
6. Repeat for all four blocks.
7. Arrange the four completed blocks into your desired pinwheel layout.
8. Serge the upper left block to the upper right block using a 4-thread overlock stitch (1/4” seam).
9. Serge the lower left block to the lower right block.
10. Serge the two units together to complete the pinwheel.
11. Square the block if needed.
12. Cut your batting and backing to match the finished size.
13. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top together, then finish by serging around the outside using the same decorative thread in loopers. No binding required!
